Miniclipper Logistics was absolutely delighted to be presented with the prestigious Business Excellence Award at this year’s Motor Transport Awards.

The 37th Motor Transport Awards were held on 6th September in Central London. The 20 awards presented at this prestigious event are seen as a benchmark for excellence among UK road transport fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers and other innovators.

The Business Excellence Award rewards business best practice and excellence for companies working in the commercial vehicle and road freight sector. To win this award Miniclipper had to demonstrate a strong financial performance, excellent customer service, strategic thinking as well as quick reactions, corporate social responsibility and staff development and retention… Judges said “This is a good business that ticked every box in terms of the criteria. The presentation blew me away.”

In the 2021-2022 financial year we reported record breaking results, and with a company-wide focus on customer service, we introduced several large volume transport and storage contracts, creating tailored services to meet the bespoke requirements of our customers. We’ve also doubled the number of vehicles in our fleet, rebranded our livery and reconfigured the 24-hour transit warehouse to increase pallet volume and racking capacity.

A large proportion of our submission was focused on our approach to corporate social responsibility, which is a business priority at Miniclipper Logistics, which has now fully integrated its third generation into the family business. We are currently working with Trident Utilities to towards PAS2060 and have recently achieved ‘Future Net Zero’ – Gold certification for reduced carbon emissions. This has included installation of solar panels and reducing first drop delivery mileage by 21% through the relocation of our 24-hour Distribution Centre to an industrial estate in Dunstable.

In a year in which saw rising costs and supply chain shortages, business plans had to be more adaptable and flexible than ever, we responded by establishing an in-house driving academy, which also provides external training to local hauliers. We also introduced the ‘Warehouse to Wheels’ programme to future proof Miniclipper’s driver talent by offering warehouse staff the chance to upskill and get behind the wheel of a truck. With two employees now qualified as Class 2 drivers, they are now being put through ADR training to enable them to transport hazardous goods with the opportunity to upgrade their current Class 2 licences to Class 1.

“It’s been a fantastic year for us, which is down to the hard work of everyone in the team” said Commercial Director, Jon Parish.

This achievement comes off the back of an award-winning year where we have taken home the UKWA’s Infrastructure Award, the UKWA’s Chairman’s Award, Palletline’s CSR Champion Award and the SME Bedfordshire’s Gold Award for Family Business of the Year and Silver Award for Business over 50 employees.
